Day 1
As already mentioned, the start of the tour is in Zug.
The first major destination is Lucerne.
All parts of the way can be made on specially signalled cycle-ways. But in Lucerne itself it is
hard to keep track on it. Look for Horw / Hergiswil, that is where you need to go.
The ideal place for lunch is Sarnen,
where there is a possibility to shop in the village and take the meal next to the lake.
From Sarnen you drive along the Sarnersee to Giswil, where the first ascension to the Lungernsee.
You may choose whether to take the east or the west side of the Lake. East is more direct but
leads along the main road while the western side is quite silent, but takes a little longer.
Also in Giswil you may choose to take the main road to Kaiserstuhl or take the cycle way.
Be aware that the bike way is quite steep. However, it is only 200 metres in height to
take until you reach the Lungernsee.
Just where the cycle way gets to the Lungernsee to the right there is a very nice place for a
swim, ideal for a break before riding over the Brünig.
From Kaiserstul you may again take the western or eastern border of the lake, again the more
calm way is the cycle way to the west. Anyway, finally you will reach
Lungern where the road leads up to
the Brünig. It is neither very steep nor a very long climb, just some more than 300 metres on
the vertical scale. About half way up there is a spot which provides a great view to the
Lungernsee, where this picture has been taken.
Up on the Brünig, it is best to take the turn left direction Hasliberg. After a few kilometres,
there is another cycle way down to Meiringen, where the goal for the first day is.
In Meiringen there are two
camp sites for a stay overnight. Of course there are many hotels as well. Also Meiringen is
good for buying food (which you'll definitely need for the next day) and also for having
dinner in one of the many restaurants.
Day 2
The main goal of the second day of that tour is the peak of the
Grosse Scheidegg.
From Meiringen, there are approximately 1300 metres to go up, and it is more steep than a normal
pass. Make sure you have enough food and water with you. From Meiringen take the main road
direction Innertkirchen until you see the red cycle way signs pointing right to Rosenlaui and the
Grosse Scheidegg.
From there you can't go wrong. Just follow the road up the valley past
Rosenlaui until you reach
the Restaurant on the top. The scenery on the way is exrtaordinary. You pass below the Engelshörner,
the Wetterhorn and other mountains. Later, when passing the top one sees the Eiger with its massive
northern flank.
On the other side direction Grindelwald
is a ever twisting road down to the village. After that there is only the main road wich leads
direction Interlaken.
In our case Interlaken was the end ouf our tour. You may take the train from there direction
Lucerne. Or you go on some more kilometers to Spiez. Of course the tour must not end here at all.
There is much more nice terrain to be discovered around there :)
