Kandersteg - Allmenalp
This article is about a small hiking trip in the Bernese Alps, starting in
Kandersteg.
It is neither long nor very strong, so it can be easily done in one afternoon.
Still, it is a somewhat challenging way to get up the Allmenalp, therefore it can
not be recommended to unexperienced hikers.
One best starts at the trainstation in Kandersteg. From there it goes south until you
may cross under the railway. Now, follow the road until you reach the river Kander.
Follow the river on a gravel walk until a guidepost leads you up the mountain on a small trail.
From there it gets steep. The next 600 metres to the Allmenalp can be done in about one hour.
And steep it stays for the next one to one and a half hours. There is not much relief
until one reaches the gravel road which leads for the next 30 minutes to the Allmenalp.
The terrain through which the trail leads sometimes does not allow any missteps, so this trail is not suitable for non experienced hikers.

The view which presents itself to the hiker when leaving the cover of the trees
is amazing. Throughout the way as well as from above, there are many spots which
provide a special sight on the surrounding mountains, waterfalls and more.
There is also a way which is a less hard to manage which is better suited for not so
experienced hikers. It is properly labelled on guideposts.
Furthermore there is also a cable car from Kandersteg to the Allmenalp. So one may easily leave out the ascent or the descent.
