This article describes a one day hiking trip in the Swiss Alps of Uri and Graubünden leading from Sedrun to Bristen. It can easliy be made the other way round as well. When starting in Bristen, from there to the hightes point on the way there are 1600 metres of height to do which may be quite a lot, depending on your condition.

Starting in Sedrun at the train station, the road north of the station leads upwards over some fiels, before the track bends off to the left. Note that the guideposts in and around Sedrun may be a little misleading. A map may help.

The mountain path then takes you further up in that valley until to an alp, from where the way keeps going along the river. Not far from the end of the valley the way turns left up to the Chrüzlipass on 2347 metres above sea.

The Chrüzlipass is the peak of this trip. From there the way goes down some hundet metres, finally you cross the Etzlibach and get to a guidepost. Until here, it takes about 3.5 to four hours, depending on your speed and the amount of breaks you make. Now you may choose to walk up to the Etzlihütte for a break and some food, or you directly take the way down to Bristen.

Now the way keeps going down, first on a white-red-white mountain path. Later it leads on a gravel road and finally an asphalt one. It is absolutely not difficult taking that way.
The valley of Bristen
The valley of Bristen
It takes about 3.5 hours to reach Bristen. There is a bus from the valley of Bristen down to Amsteg every hour. Be aware however, that the last one leaves at five minutes to six.
It is a good tour for one day, even it is takes some more than six or seven hours, and there are no difficulties which would require special alpine knowledge. Alternatively you may stay at the Etzlihütte overnight to have some time left in up there. There are rock crystals in that area and with some luck they can easily be found.
