Trift 2007 - Report

trift 2007 trift 2007 It was on the 22. of September when four fearless people equipped with backpacks met in Lucerne to take the train to the Bernese Alps where they intended to start a trip their legs wouldn't forget very soon. More pictures from the Trift area can be found in the Trift Picture Gallery.

trift 2007 We travelled by train and bus to Guttannen, which lies at 1057 metres a.s.. This is where we started to ascend with beautiful weather and a good mood. The goal for the first day was the Windegghütte at about 1800 metres a.s. but to get there we had to pass the Furtwangsattel which was at about 2500.
trift 2007 The way was steep right away and there rarely was any relief until we reached the Furtwangsattel itself, so we took a lot of brakes to eat and drink, which is the most fun of course ^^
trift 2007 trift 2007 Even though it was quite tough, it was a really nice trail. And it was definitely worth it as the view on the surronding area was great even though we did not see a lot of the Swiss Alps, as the peaks around this area were much higher than we ever were.
trift 2007 trift 2007 The sight to where we were coming from and to where we were going...
trift 2007 trift 2007 We finally made it to the Furtwangsattel, which took us exactly the four and a half hours denoted on the guidepost. We rewarded ourselfes with another break and a short meal, but we knew that about two hours from then we would get a dinner at the Windegghütte.
trift 2007 trift 2007 Looking forward to an easier descent, we continued our way. There actually was no real trail, but it was the more fun. After about another hour, we finally had a clear sight on the Triftclacier and the lake in front of it.
trift 2007 trift 2007 The glacier, and the surrounding in general, that was quite a sight.
trift 2007 trift 2007 Finally it went another three to fourhundred metres downward to the Windegghütte. All of us were pleased to finally reach that days goal. And the dinner we got was unexpectedly large. It was a four-course-dinner with soup, salad, main dish and a dessert. Compliment to the personnel!
trift 2007 trift 2007 The next we set up somewhat before nine o'clock. That days goal was actually just to reach the Susten valley to get on the bus. But as we had enough time we wantet to see the rope bridge which was recently built to reach the Trifthütte, as where on had to pass the glacier some years before, there is now a lake. It was a marked trail to the bridge, but nonetheless somewhat more difficult than we expected. Luckily there were ropes and chains mounted in the rocks to provide additional foothold.
trift 2007 trift 2007 The bridge was imposing. 102 metres long and crossing the river at an altitude of 70 metres. It is part of the new way to the Trifthütte, but even if you do not plan to go there, it is worth walking over that bridge once.
trift 2007 trift 2007 Inspired by the many steimandli we found on our way on the second day, we just had to create our own... lets see if it survives the winter :)
trift 2007 Finally we made our way along hillside with beautiful autumn colors to the cable car which was to take us down to the valley to Schwendi close to Nessental, where we took the bus and finally the train back home.
